Van Gogh and Drenthe

The Van Gogh House Drenthe in Nieuw-Amsterdam is the only house in the Netherlands open to the public, where Vincent van Gogh lived and worked On arrival, you’ll be given a personal guided tour.

The same unique experience can be found at the neighbouring Veenpark. Here you’ll find the last peat fields of Drenthe, where the peat production finally came to a halt. That’s why so much has been preserved at this very location.

The Veenpark is therefore also the place to be to experience the peat landscape which inspired Vincent van Gogh so much. Here, part two of your exploration of the peat landscape of Drenthe begins. A guide will lead you through the ‘world of peat’. Over the course of an hour, you will be shown around the park, after which you are free to go out and explore the area yourself. Experience the untouched peat moors and the authentic peat pit where peat is still dug on a daily basis. Enjoy a trip on the train or take a boat trip on the canals.

Visit the peat cabins painted by Van Gogh or head for a traditional peat working village. Complete with baker, clog maker and grocer.

This package costs € 18.50 p.p. and includes:
